Today is an occasion for which I have been waiting a long time. We have a new thinker, who with her thoughts has the intention to serve the purpose of this blog, Facets of life, which has been to make you think.
This article has been brought to you by Shalini Mitra, who works as a consultant for one of the largest consulting firms in the world, and someone I can proudly call a friend. Shalini has been a part of my life for the past 6 years, and she has the most interesting perspectives on things that I have ever come across.
Just to let you know, this is the only time I will be prefacing her work, because I wanted to take the time to introduce her to everyone. That being said, here goes Shalini’s first article on Facets of Life.

There is no glory in a grind that literally grinds you down to dust.

Hustle- By Shalini Mitra
We live in a world that glorifies ambition, hustle, and the drive for success. In this inherent rat-race, “comfort” seems like the dirty word, but we sometimes forget that we are all chasing to achieve that comfort (whether financially or otherwise) by pushing our limits all throughout our existence.
We often forget to think that comfort is not a destination or an intangible thing that can be magically achieved but is rather embedded in our journey and we need to make it as an anchor through different facets of life.
How many times in a day can you count and say that you took a break for 5 minutes to take a deep breath or to close your eyes and make the different voices in our head, which is constantly nagging us, to stop and just pause. I can surely answer on behalf of most of us “millennials” that this does not happen often.
In today’s fast-paced, ever-changing world, comfort is more necessary than ever. We are bombarded with information, constantly connected to technology, and often feel pressured to keep up with the demands of modern life. This relentless pace can leave us feeling overwhelmed and drained, making comfort a crucial counterbalance.
By simply closing our eyes for a few minutes can rejuvenate our mind. Cultivating comfort is an art which requires attention and intention. There are people nowadays who are hyper focused on their health (which is just another term of finding that peace you search for during the entire day) and dedicate their two hours by simply going to the gym.
This “simple” (I say it’s simple but the discipline is actually one of the most difficult thing to achieve) activity of the day does more good to us mentally than physically. The mere fact that we might not have been motivated but still fought our mind through it and did a physical activity gives more serotonin boost than anything else the entire day.
Comfort acts as a safe harbour. Without this safe space, we would be adrift, constantly battered by the storms of life without any respite. People always misconstrue that comfort sabotages growth but in fact both growth and comfort act like two sides of a coin. It doesn’t stifle growth; it supports it by giving us the security we need to take risks and explore new possibilities.
In this world, where information is at our finger tips, there are so many ways in which people are trying to slow down in their life and trying to cultivate comfort in their lives in any shape or form which deems suitable to them and kudos to those people who understood that in this chaotic world, they need to find their solace (whether it’s taking a yoga class or simply staying close to your loved ones).
All in all, as quoted rightfully by Mitch Albom in The Five People You Meet in Heaven – “People think of Heaven as a paradise garden, a place where they can float on clouds and laze in rivers and mountains. But scenery without solace is meaningless.”
