One of the most important pillars for a fulfilled life happens to be confidence. Today, I’m going to take a crack at why does it help to be more confident in life.
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
– Philippians 1:6

This is one of the more recent realizations I’ve had. We happen to live in a world where we are constantly dazzled by the wonders that are on display in front of us. The constant scientific discoveries, the phenomenal bodies, the melodious voices, the amazing dancers, well, you get the point. We see these people, talk about them, praise them, follow them on every social media platform imaginable, buy their products and posters and what not. Some of us even go above and beyond, and imitate their every move. If they’re wearing branded clothing and footwear, well, so should we. If they’re killing themselves at the gym, going through grueling workouts and eating like less than 20 grams of carbs a day, I guess we ought to do that too. If they’re burning the midnight oil and preparing presentations for global summits, yeah well, not so much.
Let’s take a little break and ask ourselves one question. Why? Why do we imitate them? What would we accomplish by becoming a replica of someone who is successful?
Does the process of copying these epitomes bud from our desire of success, absolutely. But do we copy their processes for the success? Are we sure about the fact that if we take the exact same path, we’ll achieve the same magnitude of success? Maybe, but in my opinion, we do these things for a certain feeling. The feeling of being indestructible, with our head held high and chest filled with so much air as to inflate it out of proportion with the rest of our body. To sum it up, we do it to feel confident. Because let’s face it, anyone we admire is generally not someone whose head is so bent forward that we see her scalp instead of her face.
Confidence is one of those things everyone aspires more to have of. Even the bully from the end of your street, he aspires to have more confidence, hence he bullies all the little children in order to feel superior. Most of our actions, the working out, the reading, the extensive grooming regimens we follow, are motivated by the need of increasing our self-confidence. All of these actions tend to have a positive impact on our confidence. But now, I’ll tell you something that no one has ever said before, neither have you read it anywhere, nor is it clichéd at all (Yes, sarcasm). Confidence is an intrinsic and innate quality to the human nature. And also, it can be cultivated within ourselves and it can be increased.
Let’s do this little exercise together. Let’s close our eyes, and imagine. Imagine that we live in a society where the set of circumstances always seem to be in our favor. Every single endeavor we intend and move forward towards, seems to succeed. There are no limitations or boundaries to our potential. We are the end all be all of the field we intend to be in. How does it feel? I bet it feels exactly the way when we imitate our heroes, our idols. Now, let me draw your attention towards an interesting facet of this exercise. You neither had to read anything (apart from this article, of course), nor build your body to look like a Greek god. You didn’t even have to shave your face or do anything else you believe makes you feel confident. The only thing you needed was your mind.
Incredible, don’t you think? Now that I’ve proved my cliché to be true, let’s take a little more time every single day to reaffirm this belief, to assure ourselves that we actually are every single bit of the person as our idols, we are brave, we are strong, we are whoever we want to be. And this is no joke, we actually are as capable as any other human being on earth. The only limitations we have are those that we set for ourselves. So do yourself a favor, and expect nothing less than greatness out of yourself. Be the best version of yourself that you can, and also, never ever think of yourself to be stuck or imprisoned by circumstances.

Until next time, peace!!
